Looks like Todd Price and Brett Anderson were cut loose in the Advocate/TP buyout. Ann Maloney and Ian McNulty are now covering food for the combined news organization. Announcement here: LINK

This guy always came off that he could be bought and paid for.

So last night I looked on NOLA.com to look at what’s happening in food for the week and I could not find it in the new layout. Anyone know if it is it’s own section anymore? If so where is it?

Eater's coverage has varied widely over the years: sometimes good & interesting, other times meh. Depends on who's providing the content...it has had its ups and downs.

I'll miss reading Brett's work: always literate, with a broad perspective on dining. Not just the same old locals' navel-gazing stuff. I'm sure he's off to freelance heaven.

Will probably end up selling some work to Eater or other national outlets.

He's quite a few notches above Eater on the freelance scale...there was that whole Nieman fellowship at Harvard.
His wife's St.Peter/Paul hotel venture probably has them staying local, I'd think.

He hasn't critiqued anything in forever. Brett is more about the sexual hair-is-meant beat these days.

And neither is a proper food critic.

Todd Price posted the below a little while ago.

quote:

I signed the offer letter. It's official.

I've been hired by Gannett | USA Today Network for its new vertical covering the South, which launches in September.

I'll be writing in-depth, enterprise food stories about New Orleans, Cajun Country and the broader South. The work will go on the yet-to-be-named website, be available to Gannett papers throughout the region or run in USA Today.

To say I'm thrilled is an understatement. I get to stay in New Orleans, dig in more deeply to my writing and continue telling stories about food.

I also get to work with Andrew Yäwn, my former NOLA.com colleague Maria Clark (aka Mari Posa), and our super-cool editor Ashley Hopkinson.

Lafayette is a new beat for me. If anyone knows people down there that I should meet, please tell me. I'll be in Lafayette once a week.
