You do realize that you can get two rolls or a specialty roll and a drink at Ichiban or Sushi Yama for what you said your ticket ran you at Nagoya, right?
Can I eat 15 pieces of sashimi for 12 bucks at either? And a couple of rolls? I eat like a fat arse when I am at Nagoya.

...Sushi Corral. Not bad.

It's difficult for me to eat anything but sushi when I am there. I do think their salt and pepper squid (as they call it) is money. The coconut chicken isn't too shabby and the seafood soup is decent.
The oysters, as much of a fan as I am, don't really scream "edible" at a place like Nagoya though.

Some people prefer quality to quantity.
what person that choses a buffet for that specific meal can honestly say this?

I like this place too, but I mainly stick to the Sashimi. I'll try a roll or two but they aren't that great. Plus they have the habachi grill on the buffet which I haven't tried but I figure it would go good with some Sashimi. It's not the best sushi in BR but it serves it's purpose.

I like this place for what it is...
The sushi is ok, and at lunch it's not to expensive. I've found about 4 rolls that I really like so I stick with them. If I wanted sushi at dinner I'd got to a place like ichiban.

Today, they had some newer rolls (at least in the last two months) that were HUGE (too big) and snowcrab was in every one.
dammit, I hate oversized sushi....a la Sake Cafe, wayyyyyy too much rice. Guess I will still give it a try one day for lunch though.

The hibachi grill was very popular among the clientele...I didn't try it, but the family sitting in the table next to me seemed to really enjoy it (but really, how can you frick up hibachi meat anyways?)
Didn't see where anyone who's gone tried the Hibachi yet, but to answer TT4E's question, you can frick up hibachi. There's a similar place to Nagoya in ATL and their hibachi food is flavorless and not worth waiting in line for. I think a place like this is ok if you can get the lunch time special, but for dinner it's usually not worth it IMO.
Sushi Corral

The hibachi is fine but a little generic. Everything is seasoned with garlic and teriyaki, but all the veggies look fresh, and if you avoid the steak and the imitation crab, it's a good plate. Still, I go for the sushi. Also, the fried rice is good.

my main question for those who don't like or didn't like nagoya is, what were you expecting?
if you went there ready to compare it to some of the cheaper/lower end sushi places in BR, there is no way you should have left dissapointed. easily on par with other places mentioned (drunked fish etc)
if you went there to compare it to tsunami, thats your bad
i just can't see how this place could let anyone down who had a rational expectation to begin with
i mean, i won't go eat the prime rib from Ryans and compare it to Outback, i'll compare it to golden corral or picadilly

A better question is why would you want to eat mediocre sushi?
Posted on 2/10/09 at 10:49 am to TigerSpy
Same reason you eat mediocre anything -- quantity. I like sushi, and I also have a simple palate. I don't shun all other sushi places because of the existence of nagoya, but if I want to stuff my face with something I like, I'm going to do that without paying $30+ for it.

Not all rolls require the choicest ingredients to be good. If you like california rolls, spicy tuna rolls, etc. it doesn't seem like a bad deal, especially for lunch.

because it isn't economically feasible for everyone to eat grade A sushi everytime they want sushi
do you eat ruth's chris or flemings everytime you want a steak?
and, fwiw- i don't think that was a better question..just a different one b/c you didn't want to answer mine
