Sounds like more work for them. The way those BR guys do it, seems like they aren't looking for more work

Such a less than desirable area of town. Look how Walk On's and Happy's bailed. Not sure how The Londoner makes it. A decaying part of BR to say the least.
Sad but true, I'm hoping for this place to succeed as a craft beer fan but wish they would start opening these places in better parts of town or even in the developing places of Ascension P.

I agree but that doesnt mean you give all the best beer to this new bar while alienating the other guy who has been a client for 10-20 years.

Agree but I cant really see joe blow from crescent crown telling the brewery they need to make some more bourbon county because the new Tap House on Sherwood needs it.

Are there difficult barriers to entering the market as a distributor?
I have no idea about this. Im just a beer consumer. Every thing ive said here could be complete horse shite. Keep in mind though that 95% of these threads are for the Baton Rouge and Nola area. You have input from a craft beer scene that is light years ahead of ours.

not make more, just allocate more

That's why I asked about barriers to entering the market as a distributor. If the legislature is protecting them, then they really don't have the incentive to work harder...
Seems to me the biggest complaint I see is lack of fresh IPAs in the stores. The beers aren't getting sold because they are too old. The distributor is sitting on the fresher beer while waiting for the older stuff to move. The January/2015 beer doesn't hit the shelves until enough dumbasses buy the July/2014 batch.
This is a problem everywhere. Smaller breweries in Oregon avoid this problem by self-distributing. As they grow, it becomes more difficult from them to do this, and more difficult to control what the distributors do with their beer.
Some breweries won't bottle their IPAs for this very reason. They sell only kegs - Boneyard does this. I guess it will work as long as there is enough demand for their kegs that they don't get any excess supply hanging around their warehouse.

Opening up a craft beer bar in Ascension Parish sounds very risky to me. Borders on crazy actually

I just dont think there are enough craft beer drinkers in the city right now. I think we already have enough bars to get really good beer as is.

Exactly.
Also, it would be great if you could go into a random taproom in LA and find Double Jack and Jai Eugene on tap on a regular basis. Those beers are aging in some markets because their are just too many options and they send too much beer. I can see where F-W has backed off on it's OR distribution of kegged Double Jack, because the demand isn't great for it, here. That beer needs to go somewhere where it will sell. F-W need to enter the LA market.

Ah word. Like it was mentioned, it would probably take deep pockets to get those types of kegs. There is already a line of people in front of you. Those people already have a relationship with the distributor and have $$ as well.
I dont think there is a solution right now to the problem you presented. There are just way too many beer options right now. I saw great beers become shelf turds all the time at Specs. Why buy 2-3 month old Double Jack when I can buy another comparable beer thats less than a month old? I would literally just walk around Specs and check dates and buy the freshest. I would ask the workers about beer and they would tell me to drink the current supply and they would get more.
Firestone Walker could enter the LA market but I can see the beer becoming shelf turds after a year. Just the way the craft beer market seems to be heading.

yep, lord knows we have enough shelf turds in this market.
I'd love to be able to get Double Jack on tap, but the last thing LA needs is another out of state brewery sending us a ton of boring arse year round beers to clog up the shelf space.

I think BR could sustain a few more craft beer spots, especially if attached to quality food.
Strictly beer bars like Corporate B&D... I don't know about that.

I can't find it fresh in the TX market

Exactly. This week I saw a case of Stone 18th anny IPA on the shelf tagged 19th anny

unfortunately yes but hopefully with the influx of West Baton Rouge ppl moving away and younger families moving to the area that changes one day in the future (and I'm referring to the Prairiville, Dutchtown/ Geismer area)

I'm seeing July 2015 Double Jack on the shelves everywhere in Houston. I'm not touching that stuff (but fresh it's so delicious).

Yeah, the name, Tap House, makes you want to
Unless this place is going to be something special, I'm not feeling it. A craft beer bar in that location? A $4 plus per beer type joint? There are people that will go, but that type of crowd is dwindling for that area. The area is in transition, and not in the direction of craft beer type joint. Mr. LeDoux, you might want to rethink this move.
ETA: However, if this is just an ego boosting bar for its owners, then this all makes sense. A bar with an office above it. Not a bad ego booster. Bar sales are secondary.
Other than this, I don't know what the frick they are doing. Maybe they were just suckered in by the success Chimes East.

A little off topic, but happened with Capital City? I used to wait tables there mid 2000's. The two brothers seemed to be doing pretty good when I left. They opened a restaurant in The Bluffs clubhouse, one in Navarre Beach, FL and I think one in Denham Springs.

I wondered that also. I always thought it was a pretty good place. I'm not sure what happened.

Wasn't his name Chad? I think the one in Navarre Beach was called Cocodrie's.

Their Stroubes restaurant downtown put them deep into debt. The bank wanted its money. So they were forced to sell this CCG location to keep their downtown restaurants going.
