I have an 8" Miyabi Artisan which is Japanese and uses SG2. My problem is Shun uses VG-10 which is a very decent all around steel but it's not expensive. There are many knives that outperform it that are cheaper.

However, if you like it and you haven't had any problems, none of what I say really matters.
