Lodge puts on a good cornbread festival in South Pittsburgh every year. There are some really good recipes around.

I always wondered who was buying all that cornbread mix in a box. Everything has to be handed to you now prepackaged.

The guy is going on vacation. I think boxed cornbread is ok.

Ive seen your food pictures on here. You chop herbs like a 9yr old. Im certain I can cook a whole lot better than you can lol

I grew up on homemade cornbread, but I prefer jiffy. It drives my dad and grandpaw up the wall.

and a sweeter cornbread compliments a savory & spicy dish like chili just perfectly. Pretend like you know about complimentary flavor profiles

I like to joke around with people but sometimes on the internet that does not come across as gentle ribbing. I forget sometimes that a lot of people are super sensitive and get their feelings hurt very easily. My daughter is like that also and nothing wrong with it.
I really do not care if someone uses a cornbread mix or puts ketchup on their steak.
People like what they like and who is someone else to question it?
As far as chopping goes that is my daughters favorite thing to do when I cook so I let her and she is 13 not 9.

Jiffy IS NOT cornbread!!!
Cornbread is not sweet, and Jiffy is nasty even if it wasn't sweet.

Here's a cornbread thread.

Look at my post on the bacon crusted cornbread. You can use a mix, Jiffy or make your own for this. It's crispy and delicious.

For New Year's, I used Pioneer Cornbread Mix (not the sweet) but with buttermilk instead of milk which is what I always use. I made a basket weave of bacon to cover the bottom of the cast iron skillet and put it in the oven on 400 until the bacon began to brown and the skillet got good and hot. Added the mix and baked for the normal time. It was glorious.

I use the Pioneer Woman cornbread recipe. It works great.

Real cornbread does not have sugar in it.

Well, actually it does, but no more than a TBS. If you can taste it, it was too much. Just need enough to make the corn meal taste fresh ground.
