Having some friends over to the pool for labor day and making nachos. As of now, I have ball park cheese, jalapenos, black olives, refried beans, tomatoes, green onions, ground beef, and some chopped veron's andouille. What non traditional toppings do you use to change things up?

Tradition or not, you gotta have the guac.

Put a couple cans of Rotel tomatoes in the blender and puree. Pour into a serving bowl and spoon it over the nachos.

Sour cream, guacamole, chili, black beans, cilantro come to mind

Doing some myself today too. Grilled zucchini and squash as well as the typical stuff.

Non traditional?

Make an etoufee or an au gratin and spoon over chips. Would be great.

Do a pico de gallo instead of just tomatoes

Crawfish tails, lightly chopped sautéed with a little taco sauce and green onion mixed in, topped with cheese and pico de gallo.

Nachos don't strike me as the most pool friendly menu item.

Cilantro for sure.

For meat, try lamb. I've had it a few times and it's great (if you like lamb).

Also, pulled pork, shrimp or grilled chicken. They all are great.

Experiment with the cheese. I had Parmesan Reggiano and it's great.

Hope this helps.

I like mushrooms. For quick nachos I'll do some ground chicken with chopped bell peppers, onions and mushrooms. Use the taco seasoning and serve over the round chips. Top with cheese and chunky hot salsa. Wife likes sliced avocado or guac with sour cream.
