So what Märzen / Oktoberfest beers have you had this year and where did you find them?

So far, I've had the Sam Adams Octoberfest, which is everywhere and one of my favorites. I also picked up some Brooklyn from Whole Foods, which I really enjoyed last year. It has a new label design this year.

I've also seen St. Arnold and Dundee, which I plan on buying eventually. Cheers!

I've only had a few Heiner Brau Marzens, but I've been hitting up dopple bocks. At least it's German.

Ayinger Celebrator
Hirschbrau Doppel-Hirsch.

Have you tried Heiner Brau's Festbier Oktoberfest? It's really good stuff.

They also do an Oktoberfest, which is really fun!

I've had some Abita Amber and some Great Divide Hoss Rye Lager recently... both are märzens. The Hoss was a good bit better, really liked that one.

I've never seen Heiner Brau's Mardi Gras Festbier, Oktoberfest or Hefe.

Only seen Kolsch, Maerzen and Strawberry.

I thought Amber was Marzen but beeradvocate calls it Vienna style lager. Guess I was right, they must be similar styles? Abita doesn't really hold to styles I guess and BA lists beers how they taste more than what the brewery lists it as.

Clarification please?

You can find these in Covington, Hammond, Metairie and New Orleans. I think they are some of his best beer. Also, if you go to their Oktoberfest event, you can try their beer on tap. It makes a big difference. Their brews on tap are great, IMO.

Hmmm, I'm like 99% sure they used to have it listed as a märzen on BeerAdvocate... guess it was changed. Abita's site lists it as a Munich style lager, not Vienna.

I guess it's all about the same.

I forgot I tried this one last year. It was very good. Were you surprised at the color of this beer? I was when I first poured it. Kind of blood red, which was cool, especially if you're a vampire or something.

I did too, thought I was going crazy. They list it as a Vienna Lager but in the description call it a Munich style lager . Must be pretty much the same thing.

I bet if you go through the reviews you can see some people mentioning it as a märzen and see about when it changed.

If you look at the old Andygator reviews on there it's a different beer they are reviewing than the current Andygator... it was a draft-only barleywine back in the day.

Yeah, the discussion was reminding me of those old threads arguing what Andygator was/is.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Saint Arnold Oktoberfest. Have been pretty disappointed by most of their other offerings, aside from the Christmas Ale. But this was a good Fest style.

Still haven't found Sierra Nevada Tumbler in BR yet this year. Haven't been by Calandro's in a week, so not sure if they've gotten some in. CJ told me they ordered some each of the last 2 weeks, but haven't gotten any delivered.

At this point I've had Sam Adams and Dundee. Both were excellent but I preferred Dundee. I'm still looking for the St. Arnold one around here.

I think St Arnold's Octoberfest and Christmas are hands down their two best brews.

Real Ale has an Octoberfest I'd like to try

Has anyone tried the Harpoon Oktoberfest? I saw it at Rouses yesterday and it caught my eye.

I've had it and it was good. Must of these brews are very similiar. I don't think I've had one in this style that I thought was bad. Whole Foods has it.
