They buy cured, not smoked Chisesi hams. Make their own rootbeer based glaze and then bake them.

Plus I've eaten there and have found it to be pretty good.

Me too. I can understand the hate because of price points and the style of service. But, the actual product isn't terrible at all.

Oh ok, never had theirs. We used to buy spiral cut hams at my old place and bake it with a glaze also. It wasn't hard at all. All you had to do was bake it for like 2.5 hours(depends on the size) and put the glaze on it. Doesn't take much more effort than deli hams. I'm not a big fan of deli hams.

My friend had his wedding rehearsal dinner at Mother's a few years ago and everything was really good from what I remember.

Most people here or from here can appreciate it for what it is, even if they're only willing to eat there once in a blue moon, as most are.

Exactly this. In fact it's been a long time since I've eaten a Ferdie. Think I'll get one next week.

I AM from New Orleans. I worked in the Texaco building right across the street from Mother's and I wouldn't even walk across the street to eat there.

To each his own.

Only time I go there is the weekend of Red Dress Run b/c the hotel we usually stay at is within a block. Ferdi is good. The combo platter with the jambalaya, etouffee, red beans, potato salad, and mustard greens is filling. If you're starving, that will hit the spot.

It is a tourist trap, but it's not horrible.

As the other posters said the lines are long and the Ferdi is the shite. Once you get inside you will realize the lines really aren't that long and they just make people wait outside.

The food isn't horrible, it's just horribly priced.
