I've only lived in Houston for 1 1/2 years after having lived all over the country. It might be the most underrated food city in the country.
I go to Houston a lot and I somewhat agree. If you look hard enough, you will find food just as good as most NOLA or other famous foodie restaurant. The issue is the sheer volume of shite places makes it hard to sift through what is actually worthwhile.
Whereas in NOLA, you got over 2,000 restaurants and bars in a 5-mile square radius. You almost have to be an idiot NOT to find good food here. It's just the opposite in Houston, I spend more time having to research the best food/drink options then I do in my business meetings.

A square radius, that's a new one

I've traveled a lot for work. I don't find it difficult to locate great places with social media apps like Yelp.
I'm just very impressed with Houston. IMO only NYC and SF beat Nola on a square mile basis, but Houston's population allows it to have a greater quality of food diversification than Nola.

have you been to Pho VN 21 in Bellaire?
prices about 25% less than any NOLA vietnamese and the food quality is the same if not better.

Any old timers here old enough to remember Pete 'N Tillie's next to the drugstore near campus (1970's)?
They sold a double stack pizza that 3 of us stout freshmen thought we'd tackle. It was medium sized, but the 3 of us could only finish 2 pieces each (cut into 8ths).
It had typical toppings, but my memory is that is was 2 pizzas literaly one on top the other (2 crusts). That was a memorable pizza we only ordered once due to the expense.
