You've admitted that you dont know anything about the restaurant business, so it's patently obvious you don't know what you're talking about.

Didn't say that. I had friends and family who worked in the industry and was around it but never in it.

I hope the cake was good. My personal favorite is chocolate on chocolate, but sometimes you have to pay extra for that, so I doubt you've had it.

Like I said never got any. No big deal. I bet the chocolate on chocolate is good. It was my first time there.

What did you get for that C-note? How many people did that C-note feed in a nice restaurant? Were drinks and apps involved? Does it include tax and tip?

Should have clarified per person. Had drinks and apps.

That's not true with all chefs or all restaurants or all recipes. I have plenty of restaurant recipes and I can make them and they taste exactly like the restaurant version, but I get your drift.

I didn't know that! Thanks for that tip. I don't live in BR, but eat there frequently and my Mom LOVES those oysters and also eats there frequently as she's in BR a lot. She would love it if I made some for her at home when she's not able to get there. Fun idea for a birthday or Mother's Day.

We don't serve chocolate on chocolate cake. He was referencing his preference in cake and the fact he paid a little more for it to have extra chocolate. However the Louisiana Lust is a cross between and chocolate chip cookie and a thick pie with Pecans (like a Kentucky Derby Pie). My favorite rich dessert there.

Wait, you're saying that you spent over $500 at Mansur's, then balked at the $10 cutting fee?

BWAHAHAHA

Thats like our cream of brie soup. We give out a very good recipe for it but not the exact recipe. Somethings not quite the same as it is in the place that always does it. Makes people come back for more

Does it include tax and tip? I assume you had an entree and I know you boycotted dessert.

A C-note in a nice restaurant with what I assume you had is not out of line. I've spent more than that there on myself on more than a few occasions. That's not intended to be bragging. It's just part of the discussion. And, spending that much doesn't necessarily entitle you to free service of your "brought from the outside without a phone call and asking the restaurant to keep it for you until you are ready to eat it with the untensils and plates" cake.

Wait, the C-note was for two people with drinks, app and entree (no dessert)? Dang. You got a deal, especially if that included tax and tip.

Who paid for the birthday boy?

I'd consider $100 bill at a fine dining restaurant in BR to be baseline for 2 people without ordering alcohol or anything extravagant.

It would have been nice to call first and inquire. True sign of the inexperienced. Now, that's not a bad thing because everyone is inexperienced at some point. I wasn't taught to call first. It's just instinct.

Anyway, now you know what to do to avoid this sort of situation. Regardless of what you continue to write, I think you learned something even if you won't admit it and that's part of the purpose of this board. So our job is done, here. (I hope.)

People do love that soup. I'm not one of the, though. I find the brie to overpower the crabmeat, so I stick with a few rounds of oysters.

Christ, your story is like Swiss cheese...

Your principle (and, BTW, it's principle, not principal...that person runs a school) needs rethinking.

So you think, that because you spent, as a table, close to or over $500, that a restaurant should just give you something for free? Would you have expected and ordered dessert at no charge?

Because of this thread I will most certainly dine at Mansur's the next time I'm in town. I will call ahead and ask if it's okay that I bring a cake. I will bring said cake, agree to the cut fee, then chortle at your expense as I offer up slices of cake to the server, and those around me.

ETA: Will you buy me a slice as well? I'll take the pecan concoction.

I am glad I don't. English was never my forte

Agreed, I rarely go anywhere that takes reservations without one if I can expect a busy night. Also inquire about anything that you may question. And always, if you find a conflict with something ask for the manager on duty and speak to them calmly about what was wrong.

You serious, Clark?

You must not be from Louisiana.
