My grandfather used to eat some of the turnip skins when peeling them, anybody else do this or have folks that do?
Idk why I just remembered it but it came to mind while cooking just now

Never ate the peelings , wife says I'm stupid for calling them turnip bottoms and the tops greens .

If we would dig up a small one, my grandfather would wash it and eat it raw.

I love some turnips. I get a mandolin slicer and slice two turnips and an onion about as thin as it will go. Caramelize the onion and then add the turnips and cook u til soft. Hit it with some garlic salt and heavy whipping cream and it is damn fine eating.

I picked turnips with my pawpaw. He was as real as they come. But I don’t remember any of us digging in skin and all.
Smothered pork chops and turnips might be my favorite meal growing up and still today when my mother cooks it.
We just traced both sides of my family to France then Acadia then here…so I guess it makes sense.

Haven’t eaten skins, but turnips are a must in vegetable soup for me.

Absolutely. That's why you have a fondness for the Soul Food preparation of an Asian vegetable.
