They are saying it will not alter the taste though.

So, in other words, it'll still taste like shite?

I prefer a different brand myself as I've said but figured there were others here who like it and would want to know.

My statement wasn't directed at you posting the information, but rather the impact of the supposed Maker's Mark "backlash."

For all the brand snobs. What is a better similar priced bourbon and why?

I am new to drinking bourbon and really want to know your thoughts. I need to venture my knowledge out a little bit.

Oh, no doubt there will be a backlash. And most of it will come from people that would not be able to tell the difference from a glass of the old blend from the new.

Still, I hate to see any of the Bourbon's I like mess with their blends.

That's because it was discussed on the appropriate board.

Personally, I think it hurts the brand, but people will still buy it. I think they should have just raised the price if the demand was too high, but perhaps, they thought that wouldn't work for some reason.

Well, I'm no brand snob. But I am a bourbon drinker. It has been my drink of choice for 20 years.

For me, i prefer Wild Turkey Rare Breed and my favorite but also enjoy Wild Turkey 101. in fact I'm just as likely to have a bottle of 101 as Rare Breed in my cabinet.

Alot of folks also like Wooodford Reserve. It's price is usually a bit higher than Makers or Turkey. As for taste, it is good but just not my usual choice.

Along with these there is a ever growing market of really high priced bourbons that are gaining popularity. Many of these are good, but few if any are worth the price. You will have many tell you to get this or that brand and anything else is piss water. Just remember the majority of those people would probably not be able to tell the difference from Jim Beam from whatever high price bourbon they are drinking in an attempt to look cool and/or sophisticated.

Makers makes a damn fine Old Fashioned. Just gonna have to put an extra dash of bitters in there to get the alcohol % back to where it should be.
Mrs. AJF loves her an Old Fashioned and Maker's is her poison.

Eagle Rare is my go-to bottle. It will be tough find something better for $22.

I am generally a Crown Reserve person (yes I know, its shite...), but I have had the 46 a few times and I like it. I wonder if they are messing with it, also?

completely disagree. i find it's got way too much bite compared to it's competition at that price. i've got a half full (half empty?) bottle sitting in my cabinet, and countless woodfords and basil haydens have come and gone since.

Speaking of Eagle Rare, anyone know where I can buy 1.75's around LC?

Seconded. My favorite Bourbon for the price. But, buyer beware, if you hate Bourbons with spice.
