Louisville Eats

Making the long drive home in a few weeks. Stopping for a couple days in Louisville and hoping for recs on good places to eat. Would love one nice meal for dinner.

Went a few weeks back, Proof on Main was really good and would meet the nice meal requirement. We also went to Mayan Cafe and La Bodeguita de Mima which I would also recommend.

Butchertown Grocery is the best restaurant in louisville. They also have an offshoot coffee shop/bakery, Butchertown Grocery Bakery. Would qualify the food as light brunch/breakfast
Proof on Main is really good too. Like their brunch
Pizza Lupo for pizza
Volare is probably the best Italian
Le Moo for steak
Jack Fry is kind of an old school institution type place. It’s solid. But locals are really proud of it
In fact they are really proud of their food scene, but it’s probably just slightly a notch above BR. And they are about 10-15 yrs behind Nola when it comes to concepts. There are decent meals to be had, but you aren’t having an experience anywhere.
Proof on Main is really good too. Like their brunch

That’s a bummer. I was trying to think about what Louisville would be known for, and honestly I came up empty. Other than bourbon, of course.
Some of the places that have been recommended look like good options.

As mentioned, Proof on Main is good.
I also like Jeff Ruby's which is basically their version of Ruth's Chris, and they also have some really good sushi/sashimi.
Bob's Steakhouse in the Omni is good, as is Bar Vetti. Holy Grale has great beer and a limited food menu, but all of the food is very good. The Post has fantastic pizza and a good beer selection.
There's nothing that's going to knock your socks off or leave you saying "wow, I could never get this at home!" but there are plenty of very good restaurants. Check out the menus at the Troll Pub and Doc Crow's as well -- nothing remarkable, but they are good and reasonably priced.

It’s a cool city, the food is just ok.
Nulu area is cool right off of downtown. Bars, restaurants, shopping. You’re walking distance to the downtown distilleries (rabbit hole, angels envy, old forester etc). There’s an AC hotel by Marriott right there that is nicely located
Proof on main is right there, Mayan cafe, and bunch of little casual spots (bbq, hot chicken, burgers, ice cream). Butchertown bakery next street over for morning coffee

Nouvelle (wine)

Taste (bourbon flights/wine)
