I tried them and Tony’s. Both sell by the lb. Ends up being about $55/dz. Pretty ridiculous.

You get what you pay for by the lb. Full or light, you don’t get screwed by an arbitrary “per dozen” amount. Both places mentions generally have high quality crabs.

Montalbano Seafood on Florida has Number One’s. They do a good job, but that size is pricey.

Jimbo’s Seafood down Tiger Bend routinely has some of the biggest crabs I’ve seen. They, too, are seasoned and boiled very well. They are somewhat bigger and pricier than Montalbano’s.

Oops! Missed the adjective “live” prior to posting above.

Apologies rendered.

There’s a guy who sells #2s out of his truck behind the Waffle House on College on Friday and Saturday mornings. Think it was $20ish for dozen

Man I need to start selling some crabs. I was practically giving them away a week ago. Caught a bunch in grand isle. They been catching like crazy down there last few weeks. Think I brought home little over 200 after giving away another 100. Mostly number 2’s tho with a few 1’s. They were all full.

I would wager that if you posted fresh live crabs for free on here you might get a few responses.

I bet

I didn’t say I couldn’t find anyone to give them to. Just that they are extremely plentiful for a time on the south Louisiana coast and easy to catch a large number of them. Considering how much a dozen of crabs goes for there is a lot of mark up and/or ability to make a decent bit of money for a potential since hustle.

Damn, I was hoping you didn't have many cooking friends. I would love to go crabbing so I could cook more dishes with them. Keeping them live for a few days is my problem. It's a a PITA to get some for other dishes besides boiled. Everytime I get some they get boiled, except once. I made crab stew out of Melissa Martins Mosquito Supper Club cookbook. The recipe is called Chauvin Crab Stew. Unbelievably delicious.

I was down for the tarpon rodeo last weekend and you’re right. Put out 7 traps and had close to 9 dozen. I’m trying to buy some this weekend back in BR and can’t seem to find any for a decent price.

Not sure the price, but the Asian Supermarket on Florida has fresh blue crabs. Might be a good place to check. Headed there tomorrow. Can report back.
