Growing up my parents had the old school kind where you put salt rocks around and it slowly churned for an hour.

Decades later I was told by numerous people that the cuisinart maker was a great
purchase. You just had to put the double insulated bowl in the freezer bowl in the freezer for 48 hours. It’s a piece of shite and I’m tired of it disappointing us.

Any recommendations?

I have a Cuisinart ICE-60WP1, 2 quarts. So far so good. I’ve been making tropical fruit flavored ice cream. However, I think making ice cream is more expensive than buying it. But you do get to customize it.

Bought one of these Immergoods 4 years ago. All made in USA, Stainless gears made like brick shithouse, The bucket is thick composite. Got the 6 quart model with hand crank, last year I went ahead and bought the motor for it.

A hand crank will set you back $399,

With the motor is $639

You will never buy another ice cream maker again though.

I have the 2 quart also. It never gets cold enough to make good ice cream. More like a liquid version of ice cream.

That’s something I’m looking for right there. Wasn’t looking to spend a grand but I’ll see.

home place market

check out this link, you will see some different models, as well as all the parts for these freezers are replaceable. If something breaks you don’t just throw it away.

Just realized it cost $639 all together. I read it as $300 plus the $600.

I have a Cuisinart ICE 100 - has a compressor. Tub is small, but if your mix is cold, it will freeze a batch in about 25 nminutes. I typically only freeze about 600 ml of liquid at at time - much more and it starts to push out the top. Quality of what it produces is fantastic. Comes out the consistency of soft serve, and when placed in the freezer overnight, has the texture of premium ice cream - no ice crystals.

Link below for another compressor option. Makes great ice cream.

And you can make one batch after another without having to of refreeze the bowl.

Where do you store your container? I store mine in the chest freezer and refrigerate the ice cream mix before putting it in the ice cream maker and do not have a problem with it freezing.

The only time I have had the trouble with ice cream not freezing was storing it in the freezer portion of the fridge while on vacation.

In the outside freezer for like 4 days prior. I even put the freezer higher to like 6 or 7 on the button pad.

It churned for an hour at the camp and didn’t get into ice cream

You may want to try a custard recipe over an ice cream recipe? I was curious and googled the freezing temp of custard vs ice cream and found this:

quote:

In addition to the air differences between ice cream and custard, temperature also plays a role. Ice cream is created with a temperature between 22 and 24° F, which can allow ice crystals to form. The ice cream is stored at 10° F, allowing it to harden. Frozen custard is made between 16-20° F, allowing it to freeze faster and making the product much smoother than ice cream. The custard is stored at 18° F, which lets the custard stay soft and creamy.
Custard vs Ice Cream

quote:

Custard is served at a higher temperature, 18-23 degrees, compared to ice cream, which is served at zero degrees. Custard is also made with pasteurized egg yolks and a higher butterfat content and contains less air than ice cream.

Another article

I switched to custard recipe several years ago and love it because it is more like store bought ice cream vs the ice milk that I was getting when I was using an ice cream recipe.

I consider myself to have above average knowledge of the homemade ice cream game. I have a White Mountain. It had a wooden bucket, but eventually it wore out and I replaced it with the Immergood green bucket someone else posted. That bucket is insulated and cuts your churn time wayyy down.

White Mountain is becoming obsolete, so the next motor I buy will be an Immergood. Both companies make solid motors- that is they key to creamy ice cream. You've got to have the horsepower to keep churning even when it starts to thicken.

I've never tried the indoor models, but using my setup I can have ice cream ready in an hour tops, even on these 100 degree days.

Same. I have the cheapie cuisinart. Gotta cool the base to at least sub 40 degrees. Closer up freezing the better. All add ins need to be cold too

I recently bought the Kitchenaid attachment for our stand mixer. For $89, was able to make a very good ice cream that was dairy free for my extremely lactose intolerant wife. Highly recommend it!

Yep. By a long shot.

It looks like my old school 4qt Rival might make it through another year. I scan thru eBay fairly regularly looking for a new motor, because I know that day is coming.
