Katie's in Mid City has fish & grits sometimes

Betsy's Pancake House at 2542 Canal St. is a decent option.

Located on the corner of Canal and N. Dorgenois.

Extensive menu, good prices, but can get a bit crowded when busy although the turnover is pretty fast.

Two Chicks Cafe was really good a year or so ago when we went.

Camellia Grill was my dining room years ago when I lived in the Riverbend. After moving to a different part of the parish, dropping in to relive my youth was a savored ritual. However, any visit in recent years has disappointed, in every conceivable way. Don’t see that trend reversing, sadly.

Every now and then at lunch you can catch a good burger. But it is really rolling the dice. Not sure if my taste have changed or the product has fallen that far.

A cheeseburger was my go-to meal back in the day. They’ve definitely changed something - I personally believe that they are using different hamburger buns. It just doesn’t have the same umami that it used to have. Probably a cost-cutting measure.

I would go shrimp and grits but that might be hard to find in Louisiana.
