Sure it’s personal preference but I find I just get better burns using it.

I do a double V with my v cutter. The traditional guillotine tends to make a mess, sometimes, of the end, and either smashes or tears it a little.

Going out to dinner tomorrow night for my birthday. Planning on either hitting Don Juan’s after or just grabbing some sticks and smoking them at the house after dinner.

I’ve been having an issue with my guillotine cutter not cutting cleanly lately. Think I may make the switch to V cutter.

How’s the draw been compared to guillotine in your experience?

Haven’t used a guillotine in years so I can’t tell you. My brother who is a much bigger cigar aficionado than I am, uses his knife to cut the end. He’s cut a few of mine for me, and I can’t tell a big difference, other than drier cigars don’t fall apart in my mouth with a V cut. I think your draw is more affected by quality of the cigar.
The last few Rocky Patels I’ve smoked have been awful to smoke. My brother said they’ve been having some quality issues over the last couple years.

How good is your guillotine cutter? If it's a little plastic promotional sort of thing, with a single blade, get another. If it's a worthwhile cutter that you spent coin on, clean it really well and try again.

If it's a Xikar, send it back and they should replace it.

It’s not Xikar good, but I spent a little coin a few years back to get it. It didn’t get any use for a while, so the blades may have dulled.

One thing I’ve learned with cigars is it’s definitely an industry that you get what you pay for.

I have a Xikar multi-tool that works pretty well, and they are a fine company.
However Xikar used to fix their cutters, sharpen their cutters and what have you, when they were first introduced. Now they just replace whatever you send in. There's a reason they HAVE to have such good customer service...

I've heard 6 and half dozen in the other pretty consistently. They say cello can contain a beetle hatch though if you are unfortunate enough for this to occur

You didn’t have to flex this hard bro

I casually mentioned today to my wife that I was thinking about buying a box of Padron 1926 for $500. She said, and I quote, “I’m getting a new dog.”

She wins this round.

Pulled out an Arturo Fuente Hemingway Best Seller to puff on prior to grilling steaks on this lazy Sunday evening. Mild to medium and earthy with some pepper notes to start and after the photo shot, around 15 minute mark, mellowed to a more subtle smoke. Easy draw the entire time and around a 45 minute cigar. Happy Sunday evening!

Where do you guys get your Cuban Cohibas from? I can't find anywhere that sells them?

CAO Flathead V642 Piston that I received in a 5 sampler pack. Box pressed and small ring gauge. Smelled of dark chocolate out of the wrapper. Full bodied smoke with coffee and nut flavors. Be sure to have something to drink with it. It is strong for my palate.

I like that ashtray more than I like the cigar. Can’t go wrong with anything CAO. I’m burning an Italia as I smoke some kabobs. Full bodied with earthy and nut tones, finishing with some great pepper.

The cigar was ok, would not buy again, but pleased to give it a try.

The ashtray came from my MIL. It was part of one of those brass ashtray stands like the pic I found below. The stand has since given up due to being outside on my patio since 1996, but I was able to keep the actual tray.

Glad I’m not the only one that smokes like this. If I have the time and good bourbon with friends, I’ll smoke them all night

CAO is owned by General Cigar Company, which also owns Macanudo, Punch, and Cohiba. I’m of the opinion that the CAO line has surpassed even those legends.

My wife is a big antique shopper, which is a running joke among our friends because she’s only 32, but I enjoy going because I can find great cast iron, ornate ash trays like the one you have. The industry needs to bring those back and quit pumping out the glass and ceramic.
