I'm either farmhouse style or very modern not a fan of the contemporary or whatever they call the typical style kitchens
I actually agree with that first part too.
I've seen some in magazines where they mix soft farmhouse style items with modern decor and it looks GOOD.
You wouldn't think the two would mix so well but there's a way to make it really attractive.
Yeah. I find that a lot of kitchens in nicer louisiana homes feel "heavy" if that makes sense. Big bulky cabinets, many have granite countertops, tile floor, big wrought iron decor items, Etc.
It's pretty for what it is; just isn't my personal taste.

Crap, after reading this thread I will seriously reconsider posting pics after the remodel.
Eh I try not to pay it much mind
Most of the criticism comes from people living in a shitty apartment in BR or NOLA anyway if I had to guess

Very similar. I think mine has a touch more gray. I can't for the life of me remember the color name.
Are you happy with it or do you wish you would have done something different?

My dreams:
(not the chairs but the rest of the kitchen)
sorry for hijacking your thread p-man!

Wow. So posters aren't allowed to express an opinion that isn't 100% positive or congratulatory without being attacked personally. Good stuff.

Wink, all of that white is really pretty.
See?! (not you) There is totally a way to make white warm. And while I personally like the "colder" style ( ), that is really beautiful too.
As much as I love modern decor, the reality is that I live in South LA and I better make absolute BANK to be able to find a home that can accommodate that style. Looks kinda silly to turn a home that is Acadian style on the outside into a modern cave

I think too many people buy ugly brown furniture and then attempt to decorate to match the sofa or faux cherry finished sleigh bed. LOL. No, seriously, the real issue is most people have absolutely no color sense whatsoever. I live in a new neighborhood of custom homes in the $150/sq ft + range, and so many of them have seven shades of clashing beige and brown on the exteriors. It's like the various materials (brick, mortar, siding, trim, garage door) were picked out without having any of the other materials at hand during selection. Just lazy, from the decorator or contractor's perspective: it all ends up a rainbow of earth tones. Subtle differences matter, and contribute mightily to the overall appearance of a house.
I painted almost the entire interior of my new house in Sherwin Williams sea salt, a shifty pale gray/blue with greenish undertones. Neighbors walk in and go "ahh, I love the color". (I thank them, then tell them to go home and get rid of their khaki walls and omnipresent fleur de lis and wrought iron.)
Back to kitchens: layout is far more important than color. It's gotta be functional, if you plan to use it. Make sure you can get from fridge to sink to trashcan in a minimum of steps.

I believe I remember the photos. You have a nice kitchen
Every time something about the kitchen is a problem, Jones will angrily add it to his mental list of what he needs in a kitchen when he sells and moves
House is the weirdest design. Basically no counter space, very few cabinets, etc... but two living rooms (one which is open to the kitchen) and a dining room. WHY TWO LIVING ROOMS?! Why not one large workable kitchen?!
Whoever built that house was crazypants.

Seems to be a ubiquitous trend across suburbia. Pretty depressing looking neighborhoods IMO. The types of places you never see kids out in the yard playing or riding their bikes around the neighborhood. Perhaps neurotic parents have similarly shitty taste in home decor.

Even if I thought it looked really good, I don't want to have what everyone else has :/

You are so right. MY best friend is like this. Brown everything. She'll maybe throw in a red blank or a blue (with brown) curtains but almost everything is shades of brown. She's not the only one by far. It's pretty but boring.
I can't tell if people are scared to paint color on the walls because their furniture/accessories might change, the other way around or they are just scared of color period.

You're the one in dat NOLA.
Figured you'd have that Victorian style off Charles with that porous granite. With no fast food, of course, so you can watch your children grow.
