I’m in the planning stages of putting in an outdoor kitchen this fall and wanted some input from the board on which Kamado grill I choose. I have a buddy with a pretty good hookup on a primo XL, and that’s where I’ve been leaning (though the 24” KJ would be my choice otherwise).

My concern with the Primo (and the others may all be the same) is the steel hardware combined with the saltwater pool.

Sorry if I’m not finding something in the search, but I’m a few drinks in...

If you're not getting a knock off like a vision or something, then i think a komado joe. Every bit the build quality of say an egg but i think you get some included accessories that you don't get with other brands.

Yeah I have an egg and love it, but Joe has great accessories and the price point is a bit less I believe.

So, what about the hardware on the KJ? I see some of it is 304, but what about all the nuts, bolts, washers, etc? Keep in mind, I’m speaking of the stand alone...

I really don't know.

When I've looked at them side by side though, the KJ seems just as quality as the egg. It's been a while since I've compared the two.

Right now, lowes has a KJ with a load of accessories for 700 and some change. Maybe around 750.

I've got an egg knock off (vison).

Also seriously consider a big steel keg. If I were to spend a lot on a komado, it would be one of those.

I have an XL BGE, love it.

That being said if I was buying one out of my pocket.

I like the idea of the shape of the primo.

But Kamado Joe is killing it lately with accessories and innovation of their grill.

It’d be a toss up for me between Kamado Joe and Primo.

I’m pretty sure what Lowe’s has is the original KJ and not the newest model. Sure you’d save a few hundred but just know what you’re getting. The KJ II is worth the price difference IMO. They just came out with a 3rd version but haven’t heard much about it.

You can save about $300 getting one at a Costco Roadshow.

I’ve got a Primo XL. Great grill/smoker. What parts are your concern? Is it going to be in a cart or permanently mounted? I keep mine covered and it’s about 15-20’ from the pool. No issues

I have a vision and love love it. As said above, I also keep mine covered and it's about 15 feet from my saltwater pool. Never been an issue and It's been about 5 years.
