Kamado Grill Question

Hey guys. I am new to this thread. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am in the market for a new kamado grill. I have narrowed my choices down to the kamado grill classic 2 and the big joe 2. Any recommendations on which size to get? My weekday cooks will be mainly for my wife and 2 kids, however on weekends it will be more like 6 adults plus kids.

Big Joe. I have it and the Junior and love both but if you made me pick one it’d be the BJ.
It’s me, the wife and two kids as well. It can handle anything big or small. The time for it to heat is what you make it. I have a propane torch that I can light in multiple spots in the coals and have a solid fire in 10 minutes.
It also has a cast iron fire box divider that can cut the fuel source in half thus decreasing the time.
There is a lot of info on them around the web. I suggest you head to YouTube and see what all it can do.

If money is not a factor, go with the big joe. I have the classic and while it works great for burgers, steaks, and regular meals like those, when it comes time to smoke ribs (st Louis) or brisket or multiple butts or turkey, space gets a little tight.
It’s not a deal breaker or anything, but it would be nice to have the extra room.
I would recommend getting a looftlighter or something similar (can’t remember the name of the KJ product). It makes starting the fire really easy/fast

Well i don't know what a kamado grill classic 2 is but the kamado joe's are built at least as well if not better than the eggs and you get much more for your money.
Right now lowes has joe's for like 750.00 and they come with all kinds of cool shite. It's not the latest model with the oven gasket and whatever but it's every bit as good as the egg for alot less money and alot of accessories.
I've got a cheap sam's vision model i've had for about ten years now and it's still going strong.
If however i were to buy a new kamado today, it would absolutely be a big steel keg.

Here's what i use. One of those battery operated air mattress inflators. I just get the fire going with a a cotton ball soaked in alcohol or whatever and stoke it with the inflator. Those things can be found on clearence all the time and they work great. Super fast.

Get the biggest one you can. My Large BGE lacks cooking area.

This is what I did a few months back. Applied for and used the Lowes credit card got me $100.00 off that price. Plus they put to together and delivered it all for $649.00.
I'm leaning toward getting Joetisserie anybody have one?

I have the Monolith. It comes with everything including the BBQ Guru control.

If I were in the market right now I’d buy the newest model Kamado joe big joe (the 24” one)
Kamado joe is blowing everyone else away with all of their accessories.
It will also be the last grill you probably buy in your lifetime. So spend the money.

I'd go Big Joe if i had to do it over again. I have the Classic II, and it's incredible. But sometimes, i want more space for smoking more than one thing. I can fit 1 large brisket on the classic II, but occasionally i'd like to be able to smoke a brisket and a butt simultaneously. Can't do that on the II.

It sounds like you need the Big Joe.
I’d recommend Googling “kamado Joe Costco schedule.” Kamado Joe does these roadshows at each Costco around the country. If you can wait till one shows up near you, you can save about 22% off retail. When I bought mine, they even threw in a weather cover and a box of starters.

I just bought a Kamado Joe last month. Had narrowed my search down to the same two choices and ended up going with the Big Joe (24”). Very happy with it so far. As other folks have mentioned, the larger size does not really affect heating time, and the larger cook surface is well worth the extra money. Two full racks of ribs and a 9 lb. pork butt with plenty of room to spare. I view it as an investment into many future years of BBQ and grilling.
Definitely price shop though. I found a great Fathers Day sale at Atlanta Grill Company online and was able to get BBQ Guys in Baton Rouge to price match.

Thanks for the help. Ended up going with the big joe. I went through the Atlanta grill company. Big joe 2 is 400 off and you pay 99 in shipping but pay no taxes. Pretty good deal if anyone else is interested. I believe it’s pretty close to the Costco prices especially when you factor in no taxes.
