According to his quote in the advocate article. He began thinking about selling after the Beer garden was approved by the city in late September.

It's not like the restaurant has been on the selling block for a long time.

Dave was up visiting about a month ago and told me this... I was shocked..

That said, he's been over the grind of the music/food side of the business for quite a while... Couple that with the lease and issues with the building and he's done.

Hopefully someone buys it, but a large part of what Chelsea's was over the years, was Dave... End of an era..

A leaky roof and a leaky lease will drain the life out of you. The food side is so cut throat that it is a pain in the arse.

so hire a GM and let them deal with the bullshite. If it was making cash, he'd keep it or he would have it sold already.

Well ole Smokie did this at George's quite a few years ago when he hired a manager named Sammy and went off to ride his Harley and big shot around town. Sammy turned out to make a lot of money in a short period of time and opened a place on Highland Road named Sammy's.

Owners that take your advice more often than not end up with the severe short end of the stick.

I've known Dave since the old location. My Baw Elliot and him 'partied' pretty much all the time. I'd party too.

Partied all over the old location, all over the one by the overpass, all in the parking lot at both, and with biker George. Dude partied more than anybody I knew.

Anybody know if George is still alive?

This is unbelievable. This would be a bigger blow to Baton Rouge than the loss of the Caterie. Chelsea's is iconic, an institution in the music and culinary scene. I really hope someone buys it to keep it going. If I had the money, I would do so in a heart beat.

Kiss the old overpass goodbye. Back in the day you had Chelsea's, Duvic's, ZeeZees, and Ivars.

Now Chelsea's and ZeeZees will be gone, Ivars is all cleaned up. Who knows, before long Bet R may become a Wal Mart.

It's menu was creative and innovative, yet at a price point that even college kids could afford. You generally don't get that kind of ambition at those kinds of prices. That's what made Chelsea's my favorite joint as well as a regular spot rather than just a special occasion haunt.

I have fond memories of playing shows there. I saw Anders Osborne there the first time he came to Baton Rouge. Chelsea's is my favorite restaurant in town. I will be there tomorrow at lunch time if anyone wants to join me. I'll be in the Syllable 7 shirt.

I never went to Zee Zee's. I always found Ivars to be overpriced, but it looks nice post remodel. I can still count on one hand the number of times I've been in there, though. Chelsea's was part of my regular rotation along with the Varsity, Northgate Tavern, Radio Bar, the Cove, and once in a blue moon Spanish Moon, downtown, or Tigerland.

Nah. Before all of those you had Ruby's and I think it was the original Colonials Club before it was reincarnated as the new Colonials Club and I don't remember what Zee Zee's was but I had a drink there and ole Bet R was still the same. That will be a constant because it's a good store and the neighborhood supports it.

Something will take over these places.

Zee Zee's seemed too frat for me. It was a catholic high, u high and Episcopal reunion weekly.

The plate lunches are good, but every time I buy lunch meat from there, it goes bad in like a day. Also, their bakery doesn't make great po'boy bread for sandwiches. For those reasons, I really don't shop there all that often
