Is there any reason to have a tri-pod when cooking with a dutch oven?

Is there some benefit to using a tri-pod as oppossed to cooking directly on the fire?

If your pot doesn't have legs or if you don't want that much heat, it's useful
Also, if your fire is really tall and you cannot rest your pot on it level.

It gives you a lot more control of how much heat you want on the pot. That is really only true though if you have one that is adjustable and easy to adjust. I don't have any pictures of mine I don't think, but I can probably go find something close and I'll come back and post (I made mine but I copied some designs I had seen).
If it isn't adjustable then I don't see much sense in having a tripod.

I just use the stove
But I suppose for a portable setup for tailgates and such it might make sense to use a tripod to adjust heat as others have said.

This guy has a pretty similar setup to mine. His is a little more polished and definitely looks better. I started using chain and hooks but was too hard to adjust when the fire was really going.
After trial and error I ended up using winch cable on mine with a pulley at the top. My handle is similar to his and is out of the way of the fire so you can grab it to adjust but still gets hot (use a glove...don't ask how I learned this rule). I used an extra hook off an old Jeep winch I had laying around for the other end and could hang anything off of it (dutch oven, grill, coffee pot, wet shoes (yep)).
He has a video in here too showing how it works. LINK

I really don't understand what youre asking? You are able to suspend it over the fire and adjust.

Just put the pot on the ground and heat with hot coals
