I think that Ben & Jack's is an offshoot as well.

I've probably been to Ben and Jacks more times than I can count (it was down the street from my dad's apt when he lived there and it's his favorite), and I think it's good. I agree with the poster who said there are hundreds of cooler restaurants than a steakhouse in NYC, but if you want to do it, do it up once

I’ve been twice in my life. Once I was about 12 and my father, who was from the area, took me.

When he got old he gave me his Peter Lugar credit card-just for the hell of it. About a year after he died I had reason to be in New York and while I’m not a big steak house guy I decided to go in his honor and use his card. When I made the reservation I changed the address on his account to my own and my wife and I enjoyed a great dinner with him in mind.

I have the card now in my dresser and maybe one day I’ll use it again or pass it to my kids. Just my Peter Lugar story.
