I cook a lot of jambalayas and such in my magnalite pots and am looking to invest in a larger iron pot and burner. Looking for suggestions on brand/where to buy and also what size. I would be using it to cook for around 20-30 maybe up to 40 sometimes people usually. TIA

I just bought a 5 gallon King Kooker. It has an aluminum lid, which initially I really wanted at cast iron lid. But I think an aluminum lid is just fine when you have take to it on and off a lot.
Cooked my first Jambalaya in it for the FSU game and it came out great. It was easier to cook in than my 2 gallon flat bottom on the stove and it came out better.

Here is what I was looking at when I was in the market.

That's a solid setup there with what I consider a decent price.

That's what I was thinking. I bet shipping is kinda pricey though.

I sure wish I had my grandfather's old cast iron kettle. That sucker must've been 30-40 gallon sized.

Question for those that use the 5 or 10 gallon cast iron pots to cook a jambalaya.

Is that 10" [95,000 BTU] burner about the right size or would a smaller 40.000 BTU be a better size?

So I bought this setup (King Kooker) at Lowe's.
King Kooker pot and burner

It has a 60,000 btu burner and with the 5 gallon pot it did great. I had a little wind that day and the flame blew out one time when I turned way down to finish cooking the rice. The 95,000 btu maybe overkill on the 5 gal pot depending how it handles getting really low flames. I think a 40,000 btu would be just fine on a 5 gal pot.

But it was more than enough juice to get the pot boiling quick and browning meat. I think it would be just fine with a 10 gallon pot too. King Kooker uses this burner for the 5 and 10 gal pots.

Now I did want to buy something like that R&R setup and called one of the guys in LA that made but it was going to be $500 and then I'd have to ship it plus a lead time.

Get a 10 gallon set up. Make sure to get a burner/stand that is enclosed so it blocks the wind.

I got mine at Gary Matte's in Rayne and I love it.
