Seen some people using these for cracklings and frying, I see some for fairly cheap ($20). Are the cheap ones accurate? If not, what are y’all using?

What will you be using it for?

I have the ThermoWorks Industrial IR Gun (IR-GUN-S) and I like it a lot. Not sure if a $20 one is accurate.

I got a cheap one from Harbor Freight, and it does the trick for me. Good for measuring temps of pizza steel, grease, freezer items (is this thing on?), AC vents (to see if AC is cooling), etc. Been working for a few years now.

I've got a Thermoworks, too; it probably cost ~$75. TW makes several versions w/the option for a probe attachment. Buy one of those & you get the best of both worlds.

I just recently bought this one and it seems well built with decent features. Haven't tested it out to see how accurate it is though. Will try with boiling water here in a sec (assuming that's a way to do it.)

I just tested mine in about an inch and a half of boiling water, and it was jumping around both above and below 212...mostly below around 209-211, and then a few times up above. I'm guessing it was not a constant read because it was reading different parts of the bubbling water. It does get a read very quickly. I'd recommend this model for sure. At $20, not a bad deal at all.
