Speaking of Toro, went there on Saturday and thought the sushi was very meh. For the price I have had much better. The yuzu soy stir fry and edamame were solid though.

It’s owned by a larger group…. I’d expect they don’t focus 100% on this joint, although they should. It could be a money maker. However, since I’m sure they buy in bulk for all of the restaurants I’d assume the quality control isn’t there. Along with most of the locals not venturing out too much on their sushi palate…. Leads to meh.

It’s fine for what it is…. Albeit pricey.

I’ve heard the bartender refer to ‘the owner’ many times recently and they’re talking about a tall curly haired fella (I think). I know staff and management goes between there and Fields…but they might have taken on an investment partner there. Seemingly around the time of the sushi bar remodel downstairs…IDK though.

I believe you have to flash freeze fish for it to be used in sushi, so I just assumed a large portion is imported. As long as it isn't from sketchy lakes or China, I'm not that concerned.

I pay extra for the special board offerings at nice places, and they alway seem imported. I don’t care if my salmon is from Chile…it just looks super awkward on the menu.

Hmmm…. Is he skinny?

They have their hands in too much shite with the hotel, condos etc.

I need to make a call and see what’s going on. Haven’t lived there in a while, but I still know the right people. Ha

See my comment about tuna in the Gulf. Its a dying commercial fishery. I'd take a guess way more tuna are harvested recreationally.

Certainly, and I get that they aren't selling it around the southeast. But to not be selling it locally along the coast? That seems crazy to me. Maybe they just can't get enough as you said, IDK.

Im also curious about the comment about requiring being flash frozen in the USA to be served raw? Maybe that is the case, and maybe no where along the gulf coast has this capability?

It also could simply be lazy effort by the owners to find local seafood and they are just using what their one supplier has available.

Totally agree. In my opinion much too pricey for the product. As another poster has said though we sat on the top bar/deck area and it was an amazing atmosphere up there and we really enjoyed it with our friends.
