Well that is unfortunate to hear. They do a helluva job marketing juices as uber-healthy and "organic" these days. $4 for a carton of orange juice.. pretty ridiculous.

is that the article that talks about how they squeeze the oj then let it sit in tanks for a year, then add "flavor packets"?
saw it last week, glad i dont drink oj.

I used to use a juicer for my OJ. Time to get it out of the attic and start using it again.

After oranges are picked, they are shipped off to be processed. They are squeezed and pasteurized and, if they are not bound for frozen concentrate, are kept in aseptic storage, which involves stripping the juice of oxygen in a process called "deaeration," and kept in million-gallon tanks for up to a year.
Before packaging and shipping, the juice is then jazzed up with an added flavor pack, gleaned from orange byproducts such as the peel and pulp, to compensate for the loss of taste and aroma during the heating process.
i dont drink the stuff..its guaranteed to give me serious acid indigestion..havent drank it since i was like 12 and my parents used to force it on me.
every once in awhile i take a sip and it reminds of just how nasty that shite is.
i never got the love for fruit juices..its just pure sugar. i'd much rather have a v8 or tomato juice that isn't sweet.

So orange peel and pulp are poisonous or something? I get that it's wrong for them to market it as "fresh", but it's not as bad as some of these posts are making it out to be.
If you want fresh you have to make it yourself, if you want some sort of in between go to whole foods.

its the way its marketed:
"fresh, never from concentrate" doesn't make me think of something stored for a year in a million-gallon vat and mixed with flavor crystals.

eta: whenever something is made in massive amounts, you have to know that quality is going to fall. Long John Silvers says "we serve high-quality seafood", and Red Lobster has "only the highest quality seafood, and the freshest fish"

says nothing on the carton about it being fresh except that they're squeezed fresh. That means nothign.

Let me dig out my old Chinese Aquaculture article for some really scary stuff and for the noobs.
Posted on 12/19/11 at 3:28 pm to CAD703X
I only drink it this time of the year when fresh picked off my tree and squeezed by hand.
Posted on 12/19/11 at 3:51 pm to Martini
I only drink it for the added calcium anyway.

The Kroger near me has an actual juicing machine there in the store where you can get it fresh-squeezed on the spot.
A little bit more than regular OJ but so so worth it.
