Some are simply so good, that there's no debate (Chelsea's).
A few months ago my wife and I were in B.R. for a wedding, and we ended up going to Chelsea's for dinner because of the recommendations I've seen on this board. Sorry, but I was underwhelmed. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't remarkable by any stretch. I'm not sure where some folks' enthusiasm comes from.
I think Gino's is just okay. Decent, old fashioned Italian, I guess.
Really, I'm not bashing B.R. What would be considered the top restaurants?
ETA: Wait a minute. Maybe it was Beausoleil we went to.
ETAII: Yeah, it was Beausoleil.

Smokin Aces
Hell no. I went and it is overpriced for the small options. It was good, but I like Jays or Rudys in Texas better. Smokin aces inst good.

I've got $100,000.00 I'm willing to put up to any poster here that will match me and open a new, local, chef driven, innovative, farm to table restaurant in Baton Rouge, location of your choice. All I ask for in return is a menu changed daily and one free meal a day.
It's easy for everyone to criticize lack of local restaurants on a message board but I know of only one poster on this board who actually puts his money where his mouth is.
Baton Rouge has its share of gems and it has it's share of clunkers, same as any city in the United States, New Orleans included. And for those that don't notice, plenty of restaurants open and plenty of restaurants in New Orleans close. It's a lot tougher to open a restaurant than most posters on this board know and none are willing to pony up.

I lack the capital, but I may have the chef for your concept. He's currently working the grill at Zea's, haha

It's no fine dining, but I like the Chimes for what it is, plus they have a new beer guy and have really stepped up their game in that regard.

Zorba's is legit.
I'd love to try it, but my SO's Lebanese and wouldn't go for such sacrilege.
It would be like me eating New Orleans red jambalaya.

There's a building literally with my name on it in BR, for which I sort of harbor a dream of doing this in. My gut tells me it would never work (it's very small and would take tons of hurdles just to get the permits and licensure). But, it's something I ponder on occasion, nevertheless.
