Oh the all high and mighty you dont know a thing about parenting because you dont have kids argument.
It's one thing to offer and opinion in a civil manner and quite another to come across like a 15 year old who knows everything and yet has no experience in a given matter or any knowledge of people's circumstances.
Unfortunately, you are more like the latter; an arrogant know it all.
Perhaps you would be the "hated guy" in that situation because you are an a-hole. My kids have done just fine.
FWIW, the 2 still in college have cars there now because they decided they wanted to have them.

If the menu\food is awesome, I believe the surrounding neighbors could easily support the establishment even if it was tucked away.
I think BR people just don't dine out enough and don't support the types of places I want enough for us to get a thriving collection of them :/
It's not really anyone's fault; just makes me ready to move.

New Orleans owes some, but certainly not a majority to its identity to the presence of its colleges. As do, a lot of big cities (i.e., Boston).
New Orleans is not a big city really and not anywhere close to Boston in terms of colleges.

Austin and Baton Rouge are Montgomery, Alabama
You've never been to Montgomery if you think this.

this would easily take away from studying time

Nor did I suggest such a thing. New Orleans IS historically a "big city". It's not really anymore though, of course. It's certainly not really a "college town", either.

Right. One has no identity, outside of being the capitol of its state.

I guess I screwed up because you sure know a lot about parenting.
Well, that was rude..?
BR is a city with a horrible public transportation system and everything is spread out. It's extremely dangerous to leave your kid without a car, especially if they're coming in from out of town.
The only store in walking distance is CVS, which is not somewhere I'd recommend walking to alone at night if you're a female.
What if a hurricane comes?
What if they need clothes or stuff for school or whatever?
The kid has been driving around for 2 years, and parents take the car back when they graduated and went to college? Seems backwards.
My friends from TX that weren't allowed to bring their cars were such a burden on the rest of us that we ended up eventually stopping answering their calls.

I consider a "college town" to be any city/town whose primary identity is based upon the presence of a university or college located there.
Therefore, I consider Austin and Baton Rouge "college towns."
I think both of those places' primary identity is as a state capital.
Places like Oxford, MS; Athens, GA; College Station, TX; Fayetteville, AK; Starkville, MS... now those are college towns.

What? He said it's a dick move. That's pretty normal language..
WTF is your deal?

Well duh they wanted them.

People aren't usually up front about that shite. I never told my friends how much of a burden they were. I just stopped hanging out with someone I had to go out of my way to pick up/drop off.

Nothing like throwing out an insult first and when someone replies with an a-hole comment, look around like wtf lets be civil.

Yea because knowing that sending a kid to a large state university without a car is a dick move is being a know it all.

No, I had my own car so I wasnt going around asking(bothering/pestering) people for rides for everything I needed to do. Kids did fine huh? Yea tell yourself whatever you need to tell yourself to justify your dick decision

No, they decided on cars because they needed them. They were probably sick of aggravating their friends for rides or being that guy, who when everyone goes out, never is the driver and spends every night getting drunk because they dont have to drive home.

I guess it could go either way. Both have more identity than Jackson, Miss, Little Rock, or Montgomery, though. Which, i would argue is attributable to the presence of their respective universities.

The dick move is not helping out your friends without a car IMO

I was driving 10-15 minutes out of my way each way every time we hung out, and it got old.
You can only be someone's chauffeur for so long before you're done.

No doubt about that.

the dick move is not paying for your drivers drinks and drugs when youre the useless person without a car

My "deal" is that you don't know what you are talking about, yet talk anyway.
There are lots of reasons kids don't have cars at college.

Well duh they wanted them.
Well duh, not really. One of mine chose not to bring a car even though they had one.

I can respect your particular perspective, but that's all it is.

I understand. I was not saying that. Just saying NOLA is a unique place in terms of food because it is actually has a very small population, yet is world class in cuisine.
