quote:

“The smaller crawfish go cheaper. A lot of people don’t mind eating a smaller crawfish and a three and a half inch crawfish isn’t no teeny-tiny crawfish. It’s a very usable product.”” If the bill is passed, first offenders could face up to $350.00 in fines and up to 60 days in prison

Is this guy serious? Has to be an April Fools joke! No way this gets any traction other than attention for this fool.

I just checked his website. He had a seafood fundraiser for his campaign fund at $50 a plate. Must have gotten jipped with some small crawfish.

It literally makes no sense.
Economically
Politically
Or in reality
I called his office and left a msg.
We'll see if his legislative aide responds

HB 438

It's not an April Fools joke and I can't figure it out for the life of me what he's trying to accomplish? Who or what does this bill protect? Why spend taxpayer dollars and resources on this kind of crap when we have serious budget problems and real issues that need to be addressed???

Also wouldn't this open up the market for more peeler crawfish that we get in grocery stores from China and Spain.

Just imagine all the agents they would have to hire to go around measuring the tons and tons of crawfish sold every week. I can heat it now: "Whoops, this one is only 3 1/4 inches".

Maybe he has some friends that are setting up a processing plant for peelers.

So dumb. He's trying to mirror the size limit on blue crabs. But crawfish are not crabs....crabs move through a range of salinities during their lifespan; harvesting too many of a small size really can cut into a regional population. Crabs can take up to 18 mos to reach reproductive age. Crawfish are sedentary---they're not moving 100s of miles in their lifespan. Crawfish reach "adult" breeding size in as little as 2 months (6 mos on average). These aren't similar creatures.

Biological data doesn't support a size limit on crawfish.
