In that pic, all of them will be empty.... they to damn clean. When you picking crabs get the shitty bottom ones, the dirty ones, the ones with a little algae on them..... those will be the fullest crabs.

Regarding live crabs, in Louisiana seems they're all sold by the dozen. However, when we moved to SW Houston area, I realized it's different here.
When we want to boil crabs, I take a 45 minute drive to the main live/fresh seafood drag in Seabrook. All those markets sell everything, including live crabs, by the pound. In fact, the consumer is able to pick their crabs, so I like to get their early when they open up and dump all the crabs in the trough. That way, I can take time picking up each one myself, and the lightest ones I put back.
