Kreuz in Lockhart is (by far) the best BBQ I've ever had.

The meat is average to slightly above average, but their sauce is my kryptonite. Love the stuff.

All the BBQ guys in Central Texas don't mention Salt Lick when they're giving recs. Still haven't been there but we've been told to not even bother.

If you're going to travel away from Austin for BBQ, go to Lockhart, Luling, or Snow's BBQ.

It's by no means the best, but it is very good. If you've never been to one of the places that many consider to be the best BBQ in Texas, you'll definitely think Salt Lick is the best you've ever had.

Couple that with the good atmosphere, BYOB, all you can eat, seeing the open-pit in action, it's a great restaurant and experience.

Having said that, I'd rather go a mile down the road and hit Pecan Lodge any day.

Been to Salt Lick probably 5 times in my life. The last was probably around 2010.

Agree with others here. Salt Lick is a tourist place with great scenery and sub-par BBQ.

I've been to the Driftwood location twice. I like it. If I remember correctly, it's BYOB and cash only (ATM available).

I really like their sauce, so much in fact, I buy it at my local grocer.

Their chicken is really good along with their brisket and beef ribs. It's not the best by any stretch of the imagination. I prefer Lockhart's in Dallas and Smitty's (best brisket I have ever eaten) in Lockhart, TX. Black's (Lockhart and Austin locations) is good as well, but you have to catch them at the right time to ensure their beef ribs haven't gone "dry."

Hard 8 in Dallas gets honorable mention.

this is VERY accurate

saltlick = lsu football

nice atmosphere with decent play that is quite good at times and generally above average, but won't get a title any time soon ...
