That's exactly what it is. I came in one night with plans to destroy some leftover gumbo, only to find we were completely out of rice. I improvised. It was fantastic.

I know someone who subbed orzo for rice when out of rice. Worked for him.

Glad this is getting back on a friendlier discussion. I damn sure wouldn’t turn down a bowl of chili with beans, but if I had both choices I would choose w/out. I would rather have carne guisada than chili anyway. I have a fantastic guisada recipe if y’all want it.

Drop it. I have a ton of various chilis and maters I'm about to harvest that I need ideas for.

I created a new post with the Carne Guisada recipe, didn’t want to hijack the thread anymore than I already had.
