Lafayette local news station KATC did a segment on Meche's King cakes, detailing how they're made.

I thought it was interesting, I never really gave it any thought how they filled them. I assumed it was a piping bag, I didn't realize they had big machines.

Make donut. Put Purple Green & Gold sprinkles. Incorrectly call it a king cake.

Well, it’s a donut and not a cake. It’s too damn messy and just an overwhelmingly sweet, soggy donut. Meche’s is horrible. And I just shake my head at people who think these are the best thing since sliced bread. Cajun Donuts is 100x better than Meche’s, by the way.

Manny Randazzo, Antoine’s bakery, and Dong Phuong are the epitome of what a king cake should be.

Without debating whether or not it's actually a cake. Technically, because they use yeast to make the dough rise, it should be considered fried bread rather than a cake. In spirit, it's a king cake. Even though it's got more in common with a donut.

wife enjoys keller's much more than meche's

however, i will always be partial to meche's, it's what i grew up eating, i don't care what people classify it as

raspberry and bavarian cream filling

Dong Phuong

Sat next to a lady while flying to San Francisco monday morning who had a couple Phuong king cakes. Wanted to sneak one off to the restroom and eat it when she fell asleep. Too nice of a lady so instead I planned to order one. No shipping dates...

One thing Meche's has, at least to the few I've been to, is good customer service and I love when the donuts are fresh and warm. People that work at Dunkin are degenerates.

King cakes are also risen with yeast. Maybe that's what you meant, though.

You may as well go for the high score and start a thread about Mobile being "real" Mardi Gras while you're at it.
