Does anyone have a spicy coleslaw recipe they'd like to share?

Years ago I found a used a recipe for for a spicy slaw, and I can't find it anywhere. It seems like it was a somewhat normal recipe as far as the slaw itself, but the "sauce" was vinegar based and was cooked down on the stove top and then poured over it.

I would almost put money on it that I got it from Paul Kirk's Championship BBQ book. I no longer have the book, but downloaded the kindle version and didn't see it in there.

This is the recipe that I use. You'll have to adjust it to your liking if you want a spicy version.

1 head cabbage shredded (9 cups)
1 large green pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 ½ cups sugar
1 T sugar
1 cup cider vinegar
1 cup salad oil
1 T salt
1 T pimentos, chopped
Combine cabbage, green pepper, onion and celery and mix well. Coat with 1 ½ cups sugar.
In a saucepan, combine oil, vinegar, salt and 1 T sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Pour over shredded cabbage. Add pimento (for color.) Mix well. Allow to cool.
Cover and refrigerate.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I can't remember if I used a jalapeno or some other pepper in the slaw, or if the recipe called for a spice to be added to the vinegar mixture.

Either way, I'll give yours a try and see what I can make of it.

Maybe add some red pepper flakes or some sort of chili. There are spicy slaw recipes out there you could play with

I like this idea because I don’t like mayonnaise. I’ve had some very good slaws that didn’t have Mayo in them

This is Ugly Dog’s recipe. Spice it up with cayenne maybe.

1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon garlic pepper seasoning
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon molasses, plus 1 teaspoon molasses
3 cups red cabbage, very coarsely chopped (or both) or 3 cups green cabbage (or both)

google Jose Falcon slaw,

Use the malt VINAGAR and Serano. I use this a lot and it always is a hit. Mostly cut in half.
