Trying to get this Louisiana competition info out to all the different LA homebrew clubs.
Is there a competition soon?
I want to submit my latest to some sort of competition. It will be ready at it's earliest this friday, and i'd like to start competing with my beers.

There are plenty soon but not the one we are talking about. The LA Club competition is in March
When I say soon, I mean ones that you would have to ship your beer to.

I'm ok with that. I'd just like to see how my brews stand up. Where do i go to find out about these competitions?
I'm a facebook "member" of yall's club, but not an official member. Do i need to make a meeting if i want to compete in the LA Club competition?

Brewing an English Barley Wine for Learn to Homebrew Day on Saturday. Looking at a pretty simple grain bill. Cannot decide if I need another flavor malt in the bill. Right now the idea is:
88% Maris Otter
12% Crystal 60L
Bittered with Horizon, Aroma and Dry Hopped - EKG
Thoughts?
I think that recipe looks good, but I've only brewed Am Barley Wines and like to keep the malt bill simple and clean.
I think Firestone Walker uses a mix of Munich, Dark Crystal and Light crystal in their English Barley wine. You could always split that 12% up between those 3.

Nope, you only have to be a Louisiana homebrewer or a member of a Louisiana club.
In the past there were a bunch of rules on who could and couldn't compete. We wanted this to be fun and open to all homebrewers in the state. There are a couple clubs who have members in other states and we wanted to accommodate those brewers too.
I'll convert the competition flyer to an image and post it here for any other independent brewers.

There is no official signing up with our club. You could claim that you are a member just due to being on the FB group. We probably should work on that, but in the end I dont think it matters much.

Yea that was an option as well. So maybe some 10 and 60, I am just not sure what 3% of Munich does to a beer this big.

No saison or Belgian specialty category.
I kid.
Now I have to find something on that list to brew.

I believe i may enter 2 brews in the competition.
The oatmeal stout i just brewed, and my 3rd Prime IPA.
I'm about to brew an IPA i call Jolly Klaus next weekend. It would be ready for consumption around December 17th-14th. You think it would still be contest ready by March 8th, or will my hops have turned? Isn't 3 months the limit for hops freshness?

Is that your Westy clone? How's it tasting?

I finally got my hands on that yeast you sent. Thinking about using it for a beer on Sunday. Not sure if I want to use it without making a starter but I guess I could make one tomorrow
