Stuck at the house with covid. We made lasagna and we're going to make some homemade bread to go along with it.

Then we realized we are out of bread yeast. We tried a yeast free recipe and it was a dense mess.

I have a packet of safbrew t-58 beer yeast. Will this work for some type of bread to go with the lasagna?

It may work but it probably won't be good. Different strains of yeast produce can produce much different beers let alone bread. Bread yeast is designed to be very reliable in the timeframe in which the bread rises. The beer yeast, despite being 100 billion cells probably won't give you the same reliable rise. You're welcome to give it a shot though. at least I know that using bread yeast for brewing is a total nonstarter

Put a mask on, go to the store and buy some yeast.

Wife lazily ordered 2 packs of bread yeast on Instacart. Expensive garlic bread

May try to bread yeast anyway, were bored and half the house is sick.

In the future instead of buying packets, just get a pound of saf red and keep it in the freezer. It's 5 bucks and will last a really long time. Once you get used to using instant yeast you won't want to go back to proving dry active packets.

Yes, but your mileage may vary.

FWIW, I may a sourdough starter out of a mixed culture from one of my homebrews. It took a while to get going, probably about 1-2 months, but now i have a starter that is regularly fed weekly. I've made 3 sourdough breads so far. They are pretty good, but not as sour as i was hoping for. The bread is delicious though.

And yes, baker's yeast is a bit hardier and more conditioned to fermenting bread than brewer's yeast is for fermenting bread.
