HGG Restaurant Review - Riel (Houston, TX)

Went for dinner last night, reservations were at 8pm and it was still packed when we left. Small and cozy inside and dimly lit, great spot for a date with the SO. Would strongly recommend this place to anyone wanting a good meal and polished service. Our waiter knew everything about the menu in detail and was very enthusiastic when explaining something to us.
Outside of the restaurant, small spot with complimentary valet like many restaurants.
Here is the menu for 27-Jan, which changes with the seasons.
Here is the "texas blue crab" appetizer, it was very tasty. Lots of butter in it but not too overwhelming....the bacon did it for me. Huge bacon fan here.
Wife (no pics) had the duck which was awesome. The yellow sauce you see around the edge was a sweet potato puree with thai chili and ginger in it...was perfect to eat with the meat.
I got the hanger steak, medium rare. Blew my mind it was so tender....

Total bill with tip was $118, but wife had 2 glasses of wine and I didn't take pics of the smoked meat appetizer we had at the bar.
Food was extremely flavorful and we didn't leave with an empty stomach.

You know it is fine dining when the menu doesn't have decimals on it.
It is time for the wife and I to take a trip and get a room in "Houston Proper".
Always a blast, and only 20-25 mins from home when all is said and done.

That's actually not too bad considering the type of food, with another appetizer and wine.

Nice review. I was hoping for a pic of the 48oz ribeye.

Nice.
I've got reservations in a few weeks. Nice to have another place that's walkable in my neighborhood since Mockingbird shuttered.

Yep.
I'd probably give up a digit or two for their onion soup or shrimp bisque.

The table next to us ordered that and of course split it, that bad boy nearly spanned the width of their table it was fricking enormous with the bone sticking out. And they ordered it well done, The waiter even smirked and said "are you sure about that?"
They stuck to their guns and ordered that quality piece of meat well done. I did not stick around to see if they ended up putting ketchup on it but chances are probably pretty darn good they did.
