Help me find this cocktail

Went to make a sazerac last night, had no peychauds.
Herbsaint ice rinse.
1 part Aperol.
3 parts Rye whiskey.
I know I've had something very close, the internet hasn't narrowed it down.
Its closet cousin I can find would be a Boulevardier.
Rye
Campari
Sweet vermouth
Essentially a whiskey negroni?
It played nice. But was a bit potent for a weeknight drink.
Herbsaint ice rinse.
1 part Aperol.
3 parts Rye whiskey.

I first thought this essentially a whiskey negroni, or possibly a bastardized manhattan.

Those do not seem like ingredients in any classic cocktail that I can remember.
The only two that come to mind that have aperol are a Paper Plane and a Naked and Famous, but neither of them resemble your recipe.

And Old Pal, maybe? Rye, Campari and Dry Vermouth with lemon garnish could read similarly. It’s also a variant of a Negroni, just like the Boulevardier you mentioned. A high gravity bourbon (Rare Breed is excellent for this) is better in a Boulevardier than rye, in my opinion. It’s one of my favorite cocktails. I like to use a lemon swath sometimes instead of orange. Makes a notable difference.
