I was going to bring some out of town friends to Bacchanal tonight but this weather has me thinking otherwise. I wanted to show them the Marigny / Bywater neighborhood so looking for some dinner options.

Paladar 511 is in the running as is Country Club. Thoughts on those, Nina's or others in the area?

What did you eat?

Headed there with some friends in a few weeks for a pre jazzfest show meal.

Had the Crab Fat rice, farro risotto, blue crab dip, and tuna toast. All great, Tuna toast was a standout.

Friends had pickled shrimp and duck, both looked incredible and I would order those next time.

I'm curious about it, but I'm going to give it a few months.

No need to give it a few months. It’s already a well oiled machine. Service was impeccable and food was very very good. Nina Compton knows what she’s doing.

Went on a Thursday. Despite a fairly packed house the restaurant was running well.

Crab fat rice was just okay, reminiscent of a citrus flavored risotto.

Charred okra was excellent. A simple dish done extremely well.

Yellow Fin with Pepperonata & Eggplant was very layered with flavor.

Standout of the night was the rabbit curry with jasmine rice, pecan and cilantro. This is one of those plates that becomes a snapshot of a chef's journey. Here in one plate was the product of a Caribbean born, Italian trained chef who fell in love with New Orleans and the local ingredients. It was soulful, pleasantly surprising and yet all made sense, and I would struggle not to order it again on a return visit.

In short, the place is worth your time.
