That Costco development is bleeding Lafayette of it's character, embracing everything and anything corporate. This has nothing to do with the Half Shell chain, just an observation of the development, and there's more to come just South of the Costco fiasco.
Developing Lafayette had an article on Half Shell with a facebook link for those who are interested.

I was just commenting to someone today that Lafayette is in need of a good raw oyster place. I guess I need to revisit Don's but my lone dozen raw was just meh. Yes, there is Abbeville, but that's a little bit of a drive.
Anyone know of a good raw oyster place in Lafayette besides Don's and the upcoming HalfShell?

I worry about all of the Costo development, too, but so far Costco is the only thing I've enjoyed. There was nothing in Home Goods that I haven't seen all over the place. Nordstrom Rack seemed a little depressing. The other stores are ones we already had/have. Dick's Sporting Goods & Field & Stream are of no interest to me.
I haven't tried the raw oysters at Hook & Boil, but they have them, if you're looking for a place.

I agree with you that there's virtually nothing around the Costco development for me either. I had reason to stop into BJ's Brewhouse, and although it's trying to have a very modern atmosphere, I felt it very stale. Just no character if you're going to get some beers at a pub. Although not at Costco, I do like the addition of Whole Foods. Everything else on that Ambassador stretch can disappear for all I care. Sadly, Lafayette is turning into the corporate shopping destination for most of Southern Louisiana.

I'm hoping that any new shoppers the development brings in will eat there, and we locals can continue to eat at our favorite places. (Even though I was hoping for good news about Half Shell.)

Also, Riverside Inn serves oysters on the half shell. Come to think of it, we have a gift certificate for dinner there.

I usually avoid raw this time of year, but I had a dozen in Covington Saturday that were firm with a very good, clean taste.

OT but what's the traffic like in that area now that the development is opened? I lived in an apartment complex right down the road and often had nightmares about trying to turn left onto Kaliste. I moved out of town just as they were starting construction though.
Sidenote: Legends continues to multiply like bunnies. Word is they're taking over the former Bob's Pub on Republic.

Traffic can be hellish, but more for people who are getting there from a greater distance than I am. Even at peak traffic times, it's not bad if you're not coming down or up Ambassador.
