with a ham shank for lunch today. I should have walked to Baton Rouge instead of driving to wear that meal off. I'm still stuffed.
Really good red beans and that ham shank is incredible as well as huge.

I grew up in that place. Family opened and owned it up until about 7 years ago. The food was great back then, but I haven't been back since we sold it. People say the new ownership changed some things. It was actually my first job and a lot of my family worked there. Good memories and good food

Not to sound like an idiot, but where is this place?

i used to eat there once a week when i was on a project in Harahan. The little cafeteria setup is one of the best lunch bargains in the area. red beans, white beans, mac and cheese, fried chicken, greens, etc...all really solid. And dirt cheap.

Yes, he is a really nice guy. He lives a couple of blocks from me and my wife grew up knowing his wife and their family. Our rehearsal dinner was at Smilie's back when they owned it.

Definitely not the same since Augie took over. I find it to be inconsistant. Too many things on the menu. They should stick to the KISS method.

I only go in the cafeteria in the back and I've only been for lunch but they do a great red beans and I mean it when I say that ham shank is unreal. Of course it could be a veal shank that they are substituting and I would never be able to tell the difference between pork and beef.
