Those pics definitely don't do the presentation of the dishes justice. I don't like to be popping off flashes in a place like that. I think it's a bit on the tacky side.

I think it's perfectly acceptable nowadays with the increase in popularity of food porn

Honestly I had no problem with the food at Mila. I just get really infuriated when I'm rushed at a place that charges premium prices, particularly when the place doesn't close the doors for another hour according to the website. At any rate, here are some pics from Mila

Foie Gras on top of butternut squash

Pan Seared Sweetbreads on stone ground grits. The sauce here was very rich and flavorful.

Colorado Lamb Leg and Short Rib

The Lamb was fantastic. Really fatty and tender. I didn't think the spinach pasta or whatever really went well or added much to the dish but the lamb was some of the best I've had.

Banana Creme Brule...very good, but not as good as the one at Cafe Minh IMO

Eh. The problem with it .. like most things in today's world, is that there's just too many people who do it. Things of quality get lost in the clutter of all the mouth-breathers who are fricking retarded and have no taste or class but want to be "in on the fun."

looks like dishes you'd find at Le Meritage or Flaming Torch.

which is to say .. they're probably mediocre bordering on gross.

Right. And the way I see it a pic without a flash isn't going to bother anyone.

You have to ask yourself: what if every MFer in this restaurant was snapping a picture of every course? It would be fricking annoying. I don't think twice about snapping a flash in a more casual place but there usually isn't much worthy of taking pics of.

Exactly. Pic with a flash in a nice restaurant is a lame move.

It's tough for me to really evaluate it. I was already not in the greatest mood at the moment because of some stupid trick, and then the whole being rushed thing just ruined it for me.

As much as I'd love to give the place a shot under different circumstances, there are just too many good places I haven't tried that deserve a first shot at my business before these clowns get a second one.

A couple more complaints about MiLa

1. Regarding the whole atmpsohere and theme -

They seem to be a little confused about what they want to do there. I look on yelp and the attire says dressy. Yet they're trying to be a "Southern" restaurant and they serve you cornbread.

The atmosphere doesn't really seem to emboddy classy nor Southern. Unless you count 1987 Miami as being part of the South. There wasn't really any good music or anything that set a good mood either. Come to think about it everything about the place was a bit out of place.

2. The lack of a cocktail menu, or in my case never getting one. Just about every fancy place in NOLA has a nice list of specialty cocktails. I get a boring wine list. Now that I'm looking at their website they do have some drinks from the bar. I think this just verifies that I got the "oh these people came in late, give them the shitty short service so we can go home" experience there. I'm sorry, but that experience shouldn't exist at a place with those prices.

Never again will I go back there and I'll discourage anyone else from going if they ask me.

Grant Achatz encourages it. That's good enough for me

That's disappointing to hear. Sorry you had a bad time. I know it sucks to hit up a new place and pay those prices and leave annoyed and dissatisfied (looking at you, Rue 127). At least you can check one off the list.

The lamb was good enough to almost save the day. I don't know if it was 38 dollars good, but I was really acting as if money wasn't much of an object on those 2 meals. Sad thing is I had intended to order a soup and salad before my meal but apparently that wasn't an option because they needed to close the kitchen.

They can take their James Beard award and throw it in the trash. It won't do them any good if they keep with service like that.

So my last meal of the trip was lunch at Cafe Minh

Nutty Crusted Oysters

Tempura Shrimp Salad

I thought I had taken a pic of the Banana Creme Brule but apparently I devoured it before I even thought to do such a thing.

Pictures look a little better here in the daylight.

Agree. I have the Foodspotting app on my iPhone, and the majority of it is pictures of complete shite. I mean.. on the BR page, one of the recently added photos is a can of this:

Looking to make a trip to New Orleans soon. I really love delicious food but like nicer places and price is really no concern to me.

Which places should I try?
