I don't see any pics on google that look like your pic. Not saying it's fake just doesn't similar to other photos. Also usually has a description of piece and/of size stamped on it.

I think an authentic one would be smoother inside.

That's how I felt. It's obviously either a display type thing or an ashtray but seems fake to me

I'm no expert, but it looks suspicious to me.

Your thread may get the anchor with the two word title.

Looks like someone put the letters on there one at a time by hand. Some of them are higher up than others. Double strike on the U in USA. Some of the Periods are also double struck.

Looks fake as hell to me, lettering is all out of whack , and I have never seen one that rough on the inside. Hot to mention it looks brand new

I now believe it is a fake.

My original post follows.

I love to muck up the water.

It would be very difficult to get that stamp on cast iron. To me if it's there, it was in the sand casting when the skillet was made.

I see the roughness on the cooking surface, but if it were burned out, you might find that the new surface is smooth and those are just chunks of grit stuck in the seasoning. You might find that burning it on a charcoal fire will show you a smooth cooking surface when it burns out. Scrape on with a pocket knife and see if it scratches away. If it doesn't with that rough a cooking surface, it likely isn't a Griswold.

The P or F looks just like a miss-casting to me - a bad place in the sand cast mold. These things are sand cast and that kind of stuff can happen in a sand casting.

If all you want is a skillet, I'd never walk away from a small skillet if the price is right. A tiny pan of cornbread is too nice to not have a small skillet in your cabinet.

We use our smallest skillet all the time. No one has ever turned it over to see if it is a Griswold.

I never turned it over to look.

It's a granny hand me down. Circa 1910. And I think the answer is no.

Recliner is too comfy to go look. Actually all of the six or eight cast iron pieces I own are about that old and I think none of them are Griswold.

Amazing I can even cook on them isn't it!

I am an avid antique collector. Thankfully ever got the bug for skillets.
