I have an older Weber Genisis II that I am converting to a smoker because I am buy a new model of the same grill.

Before the new one is delivered I just wanted to get a quote on running a gas line to both (just got it...600-700). I would hypothetically switch my new one on order to a natural gas hook up and convert my old one over.

Is it worth it to run the line? Is it that much better than dealing with propane tanks?

I grill 3-4 times a week.

Make sure there will be enough pressure for you to use natural gas. I tried with a line I had run outside and ran into a problem. Also, you’ll have to modify the jets (drill out) for or the other- don’t remember, been too long ago.

My house had a gas line run already on the back porch, but I love my gas Genesis. Very nice not having to deal with propane tanks.

My patio came set up with natural gas.

To me it’s worth it not to have to deal with the propane tanks.

I don’t think I could ever go back.

Same as the two above me. Already had NG and bought a genesis NG grill. Love it. Converted my blackstone to NG and also really happy with it.

First grill I ever got as an adult was propane- I got it converted to natural gas and had a line run out to my deck- it was an old pier and beam house that had a bunch of capped lines for space heaters, so it was only $250, but it was worth every penny to me. Growing up, all we ever had were natural gas grills (dad worked for Arkla Gas Co) and I didn’t want to fool with propane tanks. The house we’re in now had a line run to the patio already so no extra expense.

From a pure $$ sense, probably not. But if you are going to stay in the house for several years, it is a nice convenience to not have to worry about running out of propane and juggling refills.

On the other hand, if you have a truck, convenient place to get refills, and a barn or such to easily store a couple of full cylinders at all times, maybe stay with propane.

I got lucky and bought a house with a natural gas line on the patio. Would definitely install gas, for me, if building a house or staying in one more than 5 years or so.
