Vodka for the most part is vodka. If you get caught up in the marketing of vodka, you are stupid.

Yes. I like it.

personal fav is x-rated and I really like ciroc when extremely chilled. Too bad p-daddy is now pimping it as the price is sure to rise.
Btw, ciroc is made from grapes and not potatoes or grain.

Sounds like a waste of grapes.

quote:You realize that Smirnoff repeatedly beats Grey Goose on vodka taste tests. One of the specials I watched on tv had about 10 vodka drinkers which 8 of them said Goose was their favorite. After the test, every single one of them had picked Goose as their least favorite when they didn't know which one they were drinking. So looks like you are buying into the marketing.
I commend those second tier clowns that noted why they chose a lesser brand. (Ketel One, Chopin, Rain, Svedka, etc....)If you are mixing your crappy vodka then that explains your lack of discerning taste.
Inferiority breeds incompetence....

While I agree that Goose likely isn't my favorite, it is a good one to have around. As far as buying into marketing..WTF? Smirnoff runs 100x the commercials/ads of Goose. I really can't remember what a grey goose commercial is like and I dont really seem to pick them off in magazines. Not saying people aren't buying into marketing, but if you claim that be sure that people aren't buying into Smirnoff for the same reason.

There's a lot more to marketing than commercials.

Frank says it is about to get same kind of marketing love that he showered on Grey Goose. He gave the vodka a high $30-a-liter price tag, made it a fixture at ritzy events, and hawked it as the world's best-tasting vodka after it won a 1998 award.

yeah, I have seen you post that before. the truth is that 95% of vodkas taste the exact same. Usually the filtrations are all the same, and if you want to take it one step further send it through a brita at your house.
however, I would love to get in on one of those taste testing of vodka trials. anyone?

I'm always game for free vodka.
I mix my vodka with tonic water so it doesn't make a difference to me what they use anyway.

I think that is a big point that most people miss. as soon as it is mixed with anything the purity question goes out the window. fwiw, I used to drink vodka straight up, but now I have moved to scotch because I find it has more depth.

The guy who invented Grey Goose was the same guy who marketed Jaeger (liquid valium and was field tested at Tulane and LSU). As for GG, the marketing plan was complete BEFORE the vodka had even been determined.

I don't go by marketing, other people's taste, or a worried reflection on how my choice might appear to others. For taste and smoothness I will prefer Grey Goose and Belvedere over Ketel One, Ciroc
,etc. Stoli is always a good standby. If I am drinking a gin martini I prefer Bombay Sapphire.

It is vodka. If you pay a premium for anything over Stoli, the marketing has worked.
