My point is, if you’re keeping a brisket hot for A LONG TIME in an insulated ice chest, a towel is pointless. The heat conversion from the ice chest environment and the brisket is going to equal out at some point. Then it’s on the insulated ice chest to keep the brisket warm. An insulated ice chest is far superior insulation over a cloth towel.
If you’re going to keep it warm FOR A SHORT TIME, then a towel can help as it slows down that heat conversion and if you can pull the brisket before the heat conversion equalizes, then the towel served a purpose.
I just don’t understand when “a towel” became popular for insulation.

Not bitching, just sharing my opinion and reasoning. So you’re using a towel for ease of handling and not to keep the brisket hot? My reasoning is a towel inside an ice chest for a long period isn’t needed for insulation. If you’re using it for handling, I’m all for it.

you seriously think a brisket wrapped in a .00001" piece of foil sitting at the bottom of an ice chest will stay just as hot as one wrapped in a thick cloth?
great news for parents! lets tell the hospitals they can just use tinfoil to swaddle newborns in the incubators! after all, the incubator is like an ice chest on steroids so there's no reason for a blanket.

I can only assume you're being intentionally obtuse and ignorant in an effort to gain attention. Which seems to be your MO. But it you really can't grasp how wrapping layers of insulation around something will slow radiant heat loss I would suggest you do some googling. Maybe read up on r value or take a gander at Fourier's Law. Or better walk outside, wrap yourself in a quilt like a burrito and lay in the direct sunlight. Measure your internal temperature. Then wrap yourself in another quilt and measure your internal temperature. Keep wrapping yourself in layers of quilts and measuring your internal temperature until you have expired. Good luck with your research.

You’re missing the entire point. INSIDE an insulated chest for a LONG time.
The hot brisket is going to heat the air in the insulated chest and then the insulated chest is going to help hold the heat (given enough time).

Yall are doing it wrong. Towels are for rookies. Get yourself a down comforter, throw it in the dryer on high for 2 hours, then wrap your brisket in that and throw that in the trunk of your car on a hot day.
It'll keep for days and you can easily take your brisket with you wherever you go.
