Good Eats in Fort Payne, Alabama?

Heading to Fort Payne next month. I reckon that's fried catfish and barbecue country. Anybody been? Find any diners, fried fish shacks or barbecue joints?

I don't know the name of it, but there's a good Mexican place near downtown. Authentic Mexican, not Tex-Mex. I'll try to find the name of it.
There are a couple of little diners downtown, but I've never eaten at them. Once gets pretty crowded on Saturdays for lunch.
If all else fails, there's a Jefferson's. It's a chain that serves bar food. Their wings are pretty good.

Mi Rancito is the Mexican place. It looks little shady from the outside, but the tacos are good. THat's the only thing I've had there, so not sure about the rest of the menu.
ETA - Meant to add that that area has a large Mexican/Hispanic population, so there are a lot of Mexican restaurants. El Ranchito is the only one I've eaten at, so there may be a better one. Friend has a cabin near DeSoto State Park just up the road and that's the one he always takes me to.

Friend,
A few years back, Mother and I visited Fort Payne with a cousin who loved the band called Alabama. We toured that ghastly museum, which is a sad shrine to people, not God. After, we were hungry and I had seen a Western Sizzlin on the drive into town. I had never been to one and begged if we could stop. Mother relented.
The inside was quiet and clean. The buffet had plenty of Southern classics, of which I had many plates, as though I were eating Golden Corral. I order a nice steak, I believe it was a ribeye and was as good as my last steak at Emeril’s. I enjoyed every minute there and had Mother vow to me that if we ever went to Fort Payne again for the Alabama museum or concert, or visit to that Grand Canyon of the East, we would stop at Western Sizzlin.
Yours,

I haven't been to one since I was a teenager. I pulled up some photos and it actually looks darn good. Thanks.

I live in the area. Sally’s Smoking Butts is probably the best BBQ. Consider driving up to Mentone (10-15 minutes away) and eating at the Wildflower Cafe for dinner. Also, about 15 minutes west of Fort Payne in the middle of nowhere is a very good steak place called Ole Gin Steakhouse. For breakfast or a meat & 3 type of lunch, Kelly’s Kitchen about 5 minutes west of of Fort Payne in Rainsville is very good.

Added them to the list. Thanks. How is Roadside Que, 607 Gault Ave N.? I read that they serve Fudge Family Farms heritage pork

The guy is from Colorado, but I try not to hold that against him. It’s pretty good, but he tries to put a bit of a gourmet spin on things. Just not a huge fan of the finished products he gets with the seasonings he uses.

I looked up all your recs. Nice. That Ole Gin spot was the one that really sang. Thanks again.

The Spleen:
Thanks for the Mi Ranchito rec. Went twice in the last seven weeks. Really good, and excellent chips and salsa (free) Nice folks running that joint.
