What do you guys suggest for good pots/pans? I want to get something nice to buy only once.
Is all clad the standard? Is it overpriced? Should I avoid it?

There is nothing better than All-Clad. Some people tout some brands of European cookware as superior in some way, but it is BS, IMHO. You cannot wear out a piece of All-Clad and it has a lifetime warranty. I have purchased some pieces here:LINK /
The pieces have some small cosmetic defect which has no effect on function and retain full factory warranty. You can save considerable money.

In the last few years my wife and I have become more concerned about the food we eat, and I've become a much better cook because of that. We also said that we would slowly replace our crap cookware with quality pieces, and most of the stuff we have now will last us the rest of our lives (Staub, All-Clad, etc.).
This is the set we purchased recently. I won't tell you they're the absolute best stainless pots/pans that money can buy, but we're very happy with them.

We’ve had a set of Emeril Stainless Steel Copper core pots for almost 11 years. I’m pretty sure they are made by All-Clad.
Not sure how they compare to actual all-clad, but they get used often, still look new, and are relatively cheap. Maybe check them out, I think they came from Bed Bath and Beyond.

I’ve been looking lately too and read some reviews. All clad seems to be really good, but expensive. I’ve been looking at the Made In Cookware. Seems to be well made and more affordable. Made in USA. Thinking about trying it out. Also look at Tramontina as they have a set made in Brazil but assembled in USA.
Most reviews had All clad, made in, Viking and 360 cookware as best stainless made in USA. Some less expensive Viking is made in China.

All-Clad is the gourmet standard, but if you don't want to spend that much then Tramontina 12-Piece Tri-Ply Clad Cookware Set is a fantastic option. They're dishwasher-safe, induction-compatible, oven-safe up to 500F and comes with a lifetime warranty. If you ever need replacement pieces, they're widely available.

Take a look at the new startup company Made In. They have stuff very similar to All Clad at a fraction of the cost.

What types of food do you often cook? Do you cook on gas, electric, or induction?
i have some all-clad. It's fine. It was revolutionary in the 1970s but a number of companies make cookware with more conductive material now.
