Fratelli's

Very underwhelming and their pre-made frozen meatballs were awful. I don't get the hype.

We enjoy dining at Fratelli's every couple weeks.

Usually get the chicken parm with pink sauce.

Agave Blue for some decent Mexican.

Go down Old Perkins for City Pork.

Walkons is fine.

Snos can be great but is inconsistent.

John Michael’s Good Eats has some decent food especially for lunch.

The area really lacks good casual dining.

Sam’s Greek & Lebanese is my go-to when there. The food is always fresh, and I think they’re the best at this type of food in the greater Baton Rouge area. (Zorba’s in BR is the very best for Mediterranean, but I don’t lump them in with the more casual like Sam’s, Serops, Al Basha, etc.)

Yea go to another parish for better food. Nothing there is great and highly overrated by people there with zero palate.

Roma Pizza is still pretty good

I live a few blocks from there, and I find Roma pizzas to be insanely oily.

Kamal's has the best baba ganoush (sp?) around.

The food is great and and IMHO overall better than Albasha's.

If you're willing to take a 15-20 minute drive, try Hilltop Inn in Maurepas.
Not sure why the negative comments about Philays, when I lived in Gtown, Philays was one of my favorites.
Another short drive is Roberto's on River Road in Geismar....damn good.

Do not go to Sno’s or Phillay’s, they are both horrible.

The best restaurant in Ascension Parish is Houmas House, but that is more white linen, fancy dining.

Mike Anderson’s is top notch. Never had a bad meal there.

A great place just outside Ascension Parish is Istrouma Brewery. Super funky place, very kid friendly. Live music, games, crazy decor. Its great.

Other recs:
Bao
Geisha
Sam’s (already mentioned), try the fried cheese steak salad
Roma’s pizza
Big Slice pizza (but they don’t serve beer)

There was an Italian joint in the same place 20 years ago that was so damn good. But Pville couldn't fill the place.

I think Italian Bowl was there, but I think 20 years is pushing it…

No, it was some independent place. Soemone else will probably have the name. Seems like it was a last name.
